Arriving in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region around the mid-1800s, Pinot Grigio found an ideal environment here, capable of enhancing the natural qualities of this gray grape variety. Thanks to its exceptional adaptation, Pinot Grigio is now the most cultivated variety in Collio Goriziano, a record shared with two other traditional grape varieties, Friulano and Sauvignon Blanc.

Formentini Collio Pinot Grigio originates solely from grapes of the same variety grown on hilly terrain consisting of the so-called "ponca," a type of soil formed by an alternation of layers of marl and sandstone.
