Cannonau Riserva 'Franzisca' Montisci 2020

Giovanni Montisci is the owner and winemaker of the homonymous wine cellar. His first experience in the vineyard and in the winery dates back twenty years ago, when, inheriting two-acre property, he devoted himself to the vine and wine. The vineyards from which this special reserves comes from, have more than 80 years, a quality factor in the wine world, clearly recognizable sipping a glass of this fabulous Cannonau. Giovanni works the land with respect for nature, the oldest vineyard is still being worked with oxen, the yield are minimal but rich at the same time; the result is a concentrated and alcoholic wine. The wine is fermented for 20-25 days in woody and plastic tanks, during which, for three times a day, Giovanni will perform a manual punching down. The evolution of this wine goes through a wise use of wood: 1 year in tonneau and 1 year in large casks (1500 liters), giving it roundness. Not only respect for nature but also respect for the wine, which is not mortified with clarification and filtration or chemical interventions, is it used just a little bit of sulfur dioxide before bottling. Born from his native yeasts and raised in respect for natural, the wine remains alive, an absolute pleasure. The reserve” Franzisca” can be considered as a compromise between a Barolo and Amarone, definitely an absolute excellence as Cannonau in purity. Also the decoration of the bottle is special; the Giovanni’s family donates, with string and sealing wax, another element of craftsmanship to this wonderful wine.
