Pelago Umani Ronchi 2019

Umani Ronchi's Pelago is a bottle with an intense and structured character, which was born in the Marche region, specifically in the Osimo area, but which is inspired by the legendary wines of Bordeaux, which have always been models of reference for all those who intend to produce great reds intended for ageing. It is a blend composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, which gives important structure and intense aromas, of Merlot, which contributes soft fruity notes, and of Montepulciano, which completes the blend with its strong and decisive character. The terroir, connoted by a typical Mediterranean climate, gives a remarkable ripeness of fruit, and that results in a pleasantly harmonious and balanced sip.

Pelago red is one of the best-known labels from the famous Marche winery Umani Ronchi, among the most important players in the Marche wine scene. The vineyards are located in the hilly area near Osimo, at an altitude between 100 and 150 meters above sea level, facing southeast. The soils are of medium texture, composed of clay and silt, with a strong limestone component. Harvesting is done manually, and each variety is vinified separately. Fermentations take place in stainless steel tanks, at a controlled temperature of 27-29 °C, with only indigenous yeasts, and with maceration on the skins for a couple of weeks. The wine matures for a period of 14 months in French oak barriques and completes ageing with another 12 months in the bottle.

Umani Ronchi's Pelago wine is a red that blends the sunny, mild face of the Mediterranean with the noble character of some of the world's most famous and beloved Bordeaux grape varieties. A fortunate combination that gives a wine that is already pleasant to taste young but has good ageing potential. To the eye, it has a dark, bright, ruby colour with purple highlights and expresses intense aromas of currant, blueberry, ripe cherry, hints of vanilla, soft spices, roasting and liquorice root. The palate has a good body, with ripe, velvety tannins and dense and ample fruit, anticipating a fresh, long and harmonious finish.
