The Refosco "Scodovacca" by artisan winemaker Denis Montanar is a red wine from Friuli that impresses with its energy and personality. Denis' winery is located in Borgo Dodone, also known as Bord Dodon, in the province of Udine, a region where the Montanar family has been passing down farming knowledge for four generations, dedicating themselves to the cultivation of cereals and grapes. Denis' first production dates back to 1989, the year he inherited his grandfather's land while also renting nearby vineyards. The official establishment of the winery took place in 1995, followed by a complete transition to organic farming methods the next year.

The "Scodovacca" Refosco by Denis Montanar is made exclusively from Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes, cultivated according to organic farming principles on predominantly clay soils. Harvesting is done by hand in small crates, and in the winery, the grapes are destemmed and fermented in open Hungarian oak vats. The alcoholic fermentation is carried out exclusively by indigenous yeasts, with a maceration period of 35 days on the skins. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 42 months in stainless steel tanks. Throughout the process, no additives or enological aids are used, and the wine is bottled without any clarification or filtration, preserving the intrinsic qualities of the grapes and the terroir.

In the glass, Denis Montanar's Refosco "Scodovacca" reveals a deep ruby red color. Aromas of ripe black fruits, earth, and undergrowth define its aromatic profile, accompanied by hints of black pepper, cocoa, and sweet spices. The palate is deep and full-bodied, with great intensity and strong personality, featuring integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish.
