Roero Arneis from Piedmont winery Musso is a remarkably balanced white wine that faithfully reflects the varietal and territorial characteristics behind it. Within the Roero wine-growing area, on the left bank of the Tanaro River, the native Arneis vine reaches its highest qualitative expression. Traditionally, rows of this grape were alternated with those of Nebbiolo for the purpose of attracting birds to the earlier-ripening Arneis, thus sparing the much more emblazoned and profitable Nebbiolo. In addition, this variety was often used to cut Barbera or Nebbiolo in order to soften the taste of the finished wine.
Musso Roero Arneis is a 100% Arneis from vines planted on predominantly calcareous soils, with little clay and frequent layers of sand, located at an altitude between 270 and 350 meters above sea level. Harvesting is done by hand in small crates and the grapes are then gently pressed, and after a short cold pre-fermentation maceration, the must is piped into stainless steel tanks for temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation. Maturation always takes place in stainless steel on the lees for several months, and the wine is finally bottled usually in the spring following the harvest.
Roero Arneis Musso possesses a bright straw yellow color with delicate greenish flashes. The nose has fruity and floral scents of pear, Golden apple, hawthorn, acacia and chamomile, accompanied by notes of citrus and hazelnut. Dry and well-structured on the palate, supported by a pleasant acidulous note and a tasty sapid-mineral vein that guide the fragrant and balanced floral finish consistent with the sensations perceived on the nose.
