Sherry Oloroso "Emperatriz Eugenia" from the Bodega of Emilio Lustau is a fortified wine made in oxidative style in the beautiful Andalusian countryside of Jerez de la Frontera. It is made from the white grapes of the indigenous Palomino variety, which has adapted well to the extremely hot and dry climate of this corner of southern Spain. It is a wine of good structure and aromatic intensity, which ages for about 15 years in oak barrels and continues its ageing with the traditional Solera Method. Its evolved, ample and very ripe notes are accompanied by oxidative aromas, which accompany the sip toward a long and satisfying finish.
Oloroso "Emperatriz Eugenia" is an interesting label from the wide range produced by Emilio Lustau, one of the best known names in Jerez wine. His Bodega not only boasts a centuries-long history but has also emerged as one of the most dynamic and enterprising in the work of enhancing and disseminating Andalusian wines in the world. What has not changed over the centuries is the loyalty and respect for the most ancient traditions of the area, which still guide all Bodega production today. The Oloroso classification is given, after an initial period of ageing, to barrels that express wines with a strong and decisive character. The fortification at about 20 percent does not allow the flor veil to survive on the surface of the wine, which thus matures in contact with the air, developing the typical oxidative notes.
Emilio Lustau's Oloroso "Emperatriz Eugenia" fortified wine is a label of great elegance, intense and complex, dedicated to those who want to know the excellence of this particular type of wine, made following a slow oxidative process. In the glass, it has a dark yellow colour with amber reflections. The bouquet recalls aromas of ripe fruit, nuances of dried fruit, dark chocolate and woody memories. The sip is deep and particularly intense, with an important structure and extraordinary density of aromas. The finish is very persistent and closes on characteristic oxidative sensations.
